Peace

The peace symbol has been created by British artist Gerald Holtom for the Nuclear Disarmament campaign in the 1950s. The sign basically combines the semaphore signals (communication over a distance by holding mostly flags in different positions) for the letter N (flags pointing 45 degrees down to either side) and D (flags in a vertical line, one up one down). The same sign was adopted by the anti-war activists initially in the USA and then globally in the 1960s to mid 1970s. The sign became an international peace symbol.
