Hand of Fatima depicts the open right hand as a symbol of protection and blessing, power and strength. The emblem is often also called Hamsa, coming from the Arabic word Khamsa which means “five” respectively “the five fingers of the hand.” The palm-shaped amulet mainly spreads across the Middle East and North Africa as a popular amulet. Its origin is thought to be in Carthage, modern Tunisia.
